| Ce sont des moyens de traitement du bois, variés et décoratifs,
qui teignent la surface tout en conservant sa structure et laissant
transparaître la madrure. Les mordants traditionnels peuvent
être transparents (la madrure est la plus visible –
la longévité la plus faible), semi-transparents (un
peu de la madrure transparaît) ou opaque (la madrure n’est
guère visible, la plus durable).
Ce concept de mordançage moderne en fait des
revêtements d’extérieur variés
à effet protecteur en différentes nuances
et divers degrés de brillant. Il existe des
mordants pour bois à base d’eau et à
base de solvants. A l’intérieur de la
maison, on utilise la plupart du temps des mordants
à base d’eau, que l’on appelle
également "glacis teintés"
pour embellir des meubles ou d’autres surfaces.
Pour finir on les recouvre souvent d’un revêtement
transparent –  Vernis.

Water-based woodstains are known as "quick dry",
and are available in gloss and satin finishes. They stain
and waterproof, resist cracking and peeling, and protect from
the sun. Apply using brushes, re-coat in approx. 4hrs; clean
up brushes in soapy water. There are some interior & exterior
woodstains which stain and varnish in one. 1 coat coverage
products are also available.
NOTE: Ordinary solvent
based woodstains exist which require longer before re-coat
and brushes need to be cleaned in white spirit.
TIP:
For best results stain in the direction of the grain! Shake
woodstain before opening it disperses the pigment and the
deposit on the inside of the lid will be a good indicator
of the finish colour.
